Modi Releases Rs 20,000 Crore For 9.26 Crore Farmers Under PM Kisan Scheme

About Rs 3.25 lakh crore has been deposited in farmers' accounts, so far under PM Kisan scheme, the government claimed.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi released Rs 20,000 crore during the PM Kisan Samman Sammelan in Varanasi as a part of the income support scheme benefiting over 9.26 crore farmers.

Tuesday's visit marked his first to his Lok Sabha constituency since beginning his third consecutive term as Prime Minister.

After being sworn in as Prime Minister, Modi signed his first file authorising the release of the 17th installment of the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi. He released the instalment amounting to more than Rs 20,000 crore to over 9.26 crore farmers under the scheme through the direct benefit transfer.

The event was attended by Uttar Pradesh governor Anandiben Patel, chief minister Yogi Adityanath, Union agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, and deputy chief ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak.

Modi also distributed certificates to over 30,000 self-help groups known as Krishi Sakhi and called it a strong step in the direction of creating 3 crore ‘Lakhpati Didis’. The initiative will ensure the dignity and assurance of source of income for the beneficiary women, the Prime Minister said.

A total of about Rs 3.25 lakh crore has been deposited in the accounts of farmers so far under the PM Kisan scheme, the government claimed.
