India clinched the T20 World Cup 2024, creating history by becoming the first team to win the tournament undefeated. In the final held on June 29, India defeated South Africa in a nail-biting match which saw both teams jostle till the very end.

The Men In Blue managed to fight back when things got tough at the end with Proteas at that stage requiring only 30 runs to win in the last five overs with six wickets in hand.

India won all the matches through to the finals except for one tied match against Canada. This remarkable achievement highlights India’s dominance and resilience throughout the tournament and reverses some of the wounds of the 2023 ODI Cricket World Cup loss.

Key Stats from the Tournament:

Undefeated Champions: India became the first team to win the T20 World Cup undefeated. India won all matches except for one tied match against Canada.

Advantage India: Out of the eight T20 World Cup finals played prior to this one, the team winning the toss had won seven times. India won both the toss and the match.

Defying the odds: Historically, six of the previous eight finals were won by the team batting second. India defied this by opting to bat first and winning the match and the World Cup. India has done this twice in T20 World Cup Finals - in 2007 and now in 2024.

Highest ever total: India's first innings total of 176 is the highest ever in a T20 World Cup final for a team batting first.

Winning second T20I World Cup: India became only the third team to achieve this feat, joining the West Indies and England cricket teams. Other teams to have won the World Cup once are Australia, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.

  • Virat Kohli bagged his 16th Man of the Match award in T20Is, surpassing Surya Kumar Yadav's record of 15.

  • Kohli also holds the record for the most number of Man of the Match awards in T20 World Cups with eight awards. The second highest is five.

India's triumph in the T20 World Cup 2024 is a testament to their skill, strategy, and resilience. Their ability to defy the odds, keep calm in tough situations, and achieve new milestones has added a glorious chapter to Indian cricket history.
