Nifty Ends At Record To Log Best Weekly Streak In Over Six Years: Closing Bell
Benchmark equity indices snapped five consecutive days of fall to close at their highest levels on Friday. On a weekly basis the Nifty, recorded its best streak of weekly gains since eight weeks ended January 22, 2018.
Both the indices closed at their highest levels. The Nifty closed at 24834.85, up 1.76% or 428.75 points and the Sensex was at 81332.72, up 1.62% or 1,292.92 points.
The Nifty also hit its intraday high of 24,861.15 points in the last minute of trade. Both the indices rose 1.8% intraday.
"Indian shares opened on a strong note Friday, driven by data showing the U.S. economy grew at an estimated annual rate of 2.8% from April to June, doubling the previous quarter’s growth rate," according to Avdhut Bagkar technical and derivatives analyst, StoxBox.
"Cooling inflation in the U.S. also fueled expectations of potential Federal Reserve rate cuts," he said. "This positive sentiment helped benchmark equity indices end a five-day losing streak, closing at their highest levels of the week."
Shares of Infosys Ltd., Bharti Airtel Ltd., ITC Ltd., Reliance Industries Ltd., and ICICI Bank Ltd. led the gains.
While those of Oil & Natural Gas Corp., HDFC Bank Ltd., Tata Consumer Ltd., Nestle India Ltd., and Axis Bank Ltd minimised the gains.
Market breadth was skewed in favour of buyers. Around 2,650 stocks rose, 1,285 stocks declined, and 105 stock remained unchanged on BSE.
Broader markets outperformed benchmark indices. The S&P BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices ended 2.12% and 1.00% higher, respectively.
On BSE, 20 sectors ended on a positive note with the S&P BSE Telecommunication emerging as the top gainer. The S&P BSE Oil & Gas rose the least.

On a weekly basis, the Nifty added 1.24% and the Sensex closed 0.90% higher.
Most sectoral indices ended higher this week with Nifty Pharma leading and Nifty Bank coming out as the top loser.

Shares of One 97 Communication Ltd. hit a 10% upper circuit and rose to Rs 505.05 apiece, the highest level since Feb 8. It remained locked in the upper circuit as of 2:46 p.m. This compares to a 1.64% advance in the NSE Nifty 50 Index.

Sanstar Lists At 14.7% Premium Over Issue Price On NSE
Shares of Sanstar listed on the National Stock Exchange at Rs 106.40 apiece, a premium of 14.7% over its issue price of Rs 95. On the BSE, it debuted at a 12% premium over its issue price.

SJVN Jumps Over 13% On Rs 14,000 Crore Order Win
Share of SJVN Ltd. soared over 13% on Friday after it bagged a Rs 13,947 crore pumped storage project in Mizoram. About 1.25 million shares of the power generation company were traded in a block, according to Bloomberg.
The company said received a Letter of Intent from the Government of Mizoram for the allotment of the Darzo Lui Pumped Storage Project, marketing SJVN's first venture in the state.

Nifty, Sensex Snap Five-Day Fall At Open As Kotak Bank Leads Gains: Opening Bell
Benchmark equity indices snapped their five-day losing streak to open higher as Kotak Mahindra Bank led the gains. However, the gains were limited as HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank dragged.
At pre-open, the Nifty was at 24,423.35, up 0.07% or 17.25 points and the Sensex was 80,163.31 up by 0.15% or 123.51 points.
"On the higher side the crossover of the budget day high of 24,600 will trigger covering in index pivotal pushing the markets higher near to all time high," according to Vikas Jain, head of research at Reliance Securities.
Aditya Gaggar, director of Progressive Shares said, "The level of 24,200 is acting as rock-solid support for the Index and as long as the Index holds it, the uptrend will remain intact."
He added that on the flip side, a level of 24,560 is considered an immediate hurdle.
Shares of Bharti Airtel Ltd., Infosys Ltd., Tata Consultancy Services Ltd., State Bank Of India, and Reliance Industries Ltd contributed the most to the gains.
While those of HDFC Bank Ltd., ICICI Bank Ltd., Tech Mahindra Ltd., Larsen & Toubro Ltd., and Axis Bank Ltd weighed.
Most sectoral indices were higher with Nifty Metal leading. Nifty Bank was the top loser.

GIFT Nifty Trades Near 24,500
The August futures contract of the GIFT Nifty was trading flat as of 7:14 a.m.
Markets in the Asia-Pacific region rose Friday as better-than-expected US GDP data affirmed investors' expectation of a rate cut from the Federal Reserve in September.
The Nikkei 225 was 142.55 points or 0.38% higher at 38,012.06, and the Kospi was 12.86 points or 0.47 higher at 2,723.51.
Wall Street traders, confident in the Fed's ability to orchestrate a smooth economic adjustment, fuelled a rally in higher-risk sectors of the market. This comes after a widespread market downturn that shook global markets in the previous session.
Shares of economically sensitive sectors, including financial and industrial companies, led the charge on Thursday. Smaller firms continued their strong performance this month, surging nearly 10%, significantly outpacing the gains of tech giants.
The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite declined over 0.51% and 0.93%, respectively, as of Thursday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was trading 0.20% higher.
Brent crude was trading 0.10% lower at $82.29 a barrel. Gold was 0.14% lower at $2,361.21 an ounce.
The Indian benchmark equity indices ended little changed on Thursday as shares of Tata Motors Ltd. and HDFC Bank Ltd. helped them erase losses after a lower open.
The NSE Nifty 50 ended 7.40 points or 0.03% lower at 24,406.10, and the S&P BSE Sensex closed 109.08 points or 0.14% down at 80,039.80.
Foreign portfolio investors offloaded stocks worth Rs 2,605.5 crore on Thursday, while domestic institutional investors stayed net buyers for the third session and mopped up equities worth Rs 2,431.7 crore, according to provisional data from the National Stock Exchange.
The Indian currency closed flat at 83.70 against the US dollar.
