FPIs Turn Net Sellers After A Day

Overseas investors turned net sellers on Monday after a day's buying.

Foreign portfolio investors off loaded stocks worth Rs 684.68 crore, according to provisional data from the National Stock Exchange.

Domestic institutional investors turned net buyers for the and mopped up equities worth Rs 3,470.54 crore, the NSE data showed.

Foreign institutions have been net buyers of Rs 12483 crore worth of Indian equities so far in 2024, according to data from the National Securities Depository Ltd., updated till the previous trading day.

The NSE Nifty 50 ended 147.25 points, or 0.65%, higher at 22,660.95, and the S&P BSE Sensex rose 494.28 points, or 0.67%, to close at 74,742.5.

Rupee Weakens Against U.S. Dollar

Nifty, Sensex End Shy Of Record High

The benchmark indices kicked off the week by climbing to a fresh record closing level on Monday led by gains in automobile stocks. The session also witnessed the market cap of BSE-listed firms crossing the Rs 400 lakh crore mark.

The NSE Nifty 50 settled 147.25 points, or 0.65%, higher at 22,660.95, and the S&P BSE Sensex rose 494.28 points, or 0.67%, to end at 74,742.5.

On an intraday basis, the Nifty hit an all-time high of 22,667.6, and the Sensex touched a new life-high of 74,869.3 earlier in the session. Bank Nifty also recorded the highest closing level of 48,581.7 on Monday.

The buoyancy in sentiment continued, led by sectorial tailwinds and Q4 earnings growth expectations, according to Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Financial Services.

Most Stocks in the Asia-Pacific region closed higher on Monday following on positive global cues. The S&P ASX 200 ended 0.20% higher at 7,789.08, and the NIKKEI closed 0.91% higher at 39,347.04.

Brent crude was trading 1.04% lower at $90.22 a barrel. Gold was up 0.32% to $2,337.18 per ounce.

"The up-move was largely broad-based, with outperformance by auto, reality, oil & gas, and consumer discretionary, while IT was tepid owing to insipid Q4 growth expectations due to a slowdown in spending," Nair said.

On the global front, after the release of robust US job data, investors are awaiting the release of U.S. CPI data, ECB policy, and U.K. GDP data this week, according to Nair.

Shares of Reliance Industries Ltd., Larsen & Toubro Ltd., Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd., Maruti Suzuki India and NTPC Ltd. positively contributed to the Nifty.

Whereas, HDFC Bank Ltd., Adani Ports Ltd., Tata Consultancy Services Ltd., Nestle India Ltd., and Infosys Ltd. weighed on the index.

Sectorally, Nifty Auto and Nifty Oil and Gas advanced the most, while Nifty PSU Banks and Media declined.

The benchmarks outperformed the broader markets as the BSE MidCap rose 0.26%, while the BSE SmallCap was 0.06% lower.

Three of the 20 sectors compiled by BSE declined, while seventeen advanced.

Market breadth was skewed in favour of sellers. On BSE 2,023 stocks declined, 1,903 stocks advanced, and 127 remained unchanged.

Nifty, Sensex At New Lifetime Highs As RIL Leads Rally: Midday Market Update

Benchmark equity indices remained extended their morning gains and logged new intraday highs through the midday with shares of Reliance Industries contributing the most.

At 11:52 a.m., the Nifty traded at 22,643.80, up 130.10 points or 0.58% while the Sensex was at 74,691.29, 443.07 points or 0.60% higher.

If the Nifty crosses 22,680, the index may climb up to 22,790 -22800 in the next few sessions, according to Sudeep Shah, deputy VP head of technical & derivatives research at SBICAP Securities.

He also noted that 22,350 and 22,380 might act as a support for the index.

Shares of Reliance Industries Ltd., Maruti Suzuki Ltd., Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., Axis Bank Ltd., and Larsen & Toubro Ltd. contributed the most to the gains.

Meanwhile, those of State Bank Of India Ltd., Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Ltd., Nestle India Ltd., Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd., and HDFC Bank Ltd capped the upside.

Most sectoral indices were higher with Nifty Auto and Nifty Realty gaining over 2%. Only Nifty IT and Nifty PSU Bank fell.

Broader markets also rose. The S&P BSE Midcap index was up 0.46% and the S&P BSE Smallcap index was 0.29% higher.

On BSE, 19 sectors advanced, and S&P BSE Services fell. S&P BSE Auto rose the most.

Market breadth was skewed in favour of buyers. On BSE, 2,014 stocks rose, 1,694 stocks declined, and 160 remained unchanged.

GAIL Hits Life High; Gets Its Highest Target Price From Morgan Stanley

Shares of GAIL (India) Ltd. hit an all-time high on Monday after it received its highest target price from Morgan Stanley, which expects the company's market capital to double by 2026 as its significance in India's energy transition grows.

The price target is the highest on the company so far among the analysts tracked by Bloomberg.

GAIL's stock rose as much as 3.07% during the day to Rs 196.60 apiece on the NSE. It was trading 2.83% higher at Rs 196.15 per share, compared to a 0.44% advance in the benchmark Nifty 50 at 9:41 a.m.

Twenty out of the 35 analysts tracking the company have a 'buy' rating on the stock, eight recommend 'hold' and seven suggest 'sell', according to Bloomberg data. The average of 12-month analyst price targets implies a potential downside of 5.5%.

Bandhan Bank Shares Fall After CEO Chandra Shekhar Ghosh Steps Down

Bandhan Bank Ltd. will appoint an interim chief executive officer for the transition period, according to outgoing Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Chandra Shekhar Ghosh.

The bank, in an exchange filing on Friday, said that Ghosh would cease to be the private lender's MD and CEO after the completion of his services on July 9.

The scrip fell as much as 9.17% to Rs 179.25 apiece, the lowest level since March 20. It pared gains to trade 6.3% lower at Rs 184.90 apiece, as of 9:53 a.m. This compares to a 0.43% advance in the NSE Nifty 50 Index.

Sensex Hits Fresh Life Time High At Open; Nifty Just 30 Points Away From Record

The Sensex opened the week by hitting their fresh lifetime high while the Nifty came very close to its lifetime high due to gains in the shares of Axis Bank and Reliance Industries.

At pre-open, the S&P BSE Sensex Index was up 307.22 points or 0.41% at 74,555.44 while the NSE Nifty 50 was 64.65 points or 0.29% higher at 22,578.35.

"Nifty can find support at 22,400 followed by 22,350 and 22,300. On the higher side, 22,600 can be an immediate resistance, followed by 22,650 and 22,700," said Deven Mehata, research analyst at Choice Broking.

"Bank Nifty outperformed the Nifty index during the week breaching above the previous peak zone of 48160 levels and is almost on the verge of retesting the all-time high of 48636 levels in the coming days," said Prabhudas Lilladher in a note.

"Once a confirmation is established, the index would have the next target of 49800 levels with most of the frontline banking stocks looking well poised for the pickup."

Shares of Reliance Industries Ltd., Axis Bank Ltd., Infosys Ltd., HDFC Bank Ltd., and Tata Steel Ltd. contributed the most to the gains.

Meanwhile, Wipro Ltd., Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd., Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Ltd., ICICI Bank Ltd., and Bharti Airtel Ltd. weighed on the Nifty.

  • Bajaj Finance: Bajaj Housing Finance is mandatorily required to list by Sept. 30, 2025.   • Wipro: The IT major appointed Srinivas Pallia as its new chief executive officer and managing director, following the resignation of Thierry Delaporte.

  • JSW Energy: The company raised Rs 5,000 crore via qualified institutional placements at an issue price of Rs 485 per share. The issue price is at a 4.92% discount to the floor price of Rs 510.09 per share.

  • Vodafone Idea: The company will raise Rs 2,075 crore via the issuance of shares to Oriana Investments. The telecom company will issue 139.5 crore shares at Rs 14.87 per share.

  • Tata Power: The company signed a share purchase agreement and acquired a 100% equity stake in Jalpura Khurja Power Transmission Ltd. GIFT Nifty Trades Above 22,600

Most of the other indices in the Asia-Pacific region were up during early trade on Monday following Wall Street's positive weekly close as job prints indicated a strong U.S. economy. However, Chinese equity indices reopened lower after a two-day holiday.

U.S. stocks ended the week on a higher note after a blowout jobs report signalled the US economy will continue to power corporate America, Bloomberg reported.

The S&P 500 index and Nasdaq Composite ended 1.11% and 1.24% higher, respectively, on Friday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average settled 0.80% higher.

Brent crude was trading 2.26% lower at $89.11 per barrel. Gold was down 0.24% to $2,324.19 per ounce.

The April futures contract of the GIFT nifty was trading 16.5 points, or 0.07%, lower at 22,657.50 as of 07:25 a.m.

India's benchmark stock indices erased earlier losses to close little changed on Friday, led by gains in rate-sensitive realty and banking stocks after the Reserve Bank of India kept the rate unchanged at policy. This helped the indices clock their third weekly gain.

The NSE Nifty 50 settled 10.85 points, or 0.048%, higher at 22,525.50, and the S&P BSE Sensex gained 20.59 points, or 0.028%, to end at 74,248.22.

Overseas investors turned net buyers on Friday after four days of selling. Foreign portfolio investors mopped up stocks worth Rs 1,659.3 crore, and domestic institutional investors remained net sellers for the second day and offloaded equities worth Rs 3,370.4 crore, according to provisional data from the National Stock Exchange.

The Indian currency strengthened by about 16 paise to close at 83.29 against the U.S. dollar.
