Weather Update: Yellow Alert Issued For Mumbai And Neighbouring Cities; Check Latest Forecast

The average June rainfall for the country as a whole is most likely to be below normal i.e. less than 92% of the Long Period Average (LPA).

Monsoon 2024 Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in its latest weather forecast has mentioned that the intensity of rainfall will pick up this week and many places across Mumbai, Thane and other districts in Maharashtra will receive spells of heavy rainfall for the next few days.

Places in Mumbai, Thane and other neighbouring cities experienced moderate to heavy rains on Wednesday morning. As per the Regional Meteorological Center of Mumbai, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in Mumbai city and suburbs in the next 24 hours.

IMD has issued a yellow alert for Thursday, June 20 predicting heavy rainfall at isolated places in Mumbai and neighbouring cities.

Given below is the district-wise weather forecast and warning until June 23 for various districts of Maharashtra.

Mumbai Weather Forecast

IMD has said that the island city will likely receive heavy rainfall on June 20 and moderate rainfall until June 23.

Thane Weather Forecast

IMD has predicted heavy rainfall on June 20 and possibly moderate rainfall likely until June 23.

Palghar Weather Forecast

The weather agency has said that the Palghar will likely receive heavy rainfall on June 20 and moderate rainfall until June 23.

Raigad Weather Forecast

IMD has said that Raigad will likely receive heavy rainfall until June 22 at isolated places and moderate rainfall on June 23.

Pune Weather Forecast

IMD has stated that Pune will likely receive heavy rainfall until June 22 at isolated places in ghat areas with moderate rainfall expected on June 23.

Ratnagiri Weather Forecast

IMD has said that Ratnagiri will receive heavy rainfall at isolated places until June 23.

Sindhudurg Weather Forecast

The weather agency has stated that Sindhudurg will receive heavy rainfall at isolated places until June 23.

Other districts of Maharashtra including Dhule, Jalgaon, Nandurbar, Nasik, Ahmednagar, Kolhapur, Sangli, Sholapur and Aurangabad are likely to receive light rains with the possibility of thundershowers until June 23.

Districts of Beed, Latur, Hingoli, Akola and Nanded can expect light rains for the next few days until June 23. Akola, Amravati, Bhandara, Buldhana, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha, Washim and Yavatmal are likely to receive thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (up to 40-50kmph) at isolated places until June 23.

Southwest Monsoon Update

IMD also provided an update on the Southwest Monsoon progress and also the overall rainfall update for June.

On May 30, the Monsoon set in simultaneously over Kerala and northeastern states. Thereafter, the north-ward progress of Monsoon was gradual and it covered entire states of Kerala, Karnataka, Rayalaseema, Goa & Telangana; most parts of South Maharashtra and some parts of South Chhattisgarh, South Odisha; most parts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim and entire northeastern states by June 12. Thereafter, monsoon has not progressed further.

Overall, the rainfall over the country as a whole for June 2024 (till June 18) was 64.5 mm which was 20% less than its Long Period Average (LPA) of 80.6 mm.

Normal to above normal monthly rainfall is most likely over most areas of the south peninsula of India and some areas of Northeast India. Below-normal rainfall is most likely over many areas of Northwest & adjoining Central India and some areas of Northeast India.
