IRCTC News: The Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation has issued a clarification on misinformation circulating on social media about rumors claiming restrictions on booking e-tickets due to passengers having different surnames are "false and misleading."

Earlier claims about passengers with surnames unlike the booking user not being able to book tickets together were circulating online

"The news in circulation on social media about restriction in booking of e-tickets due to different surname is false and misleading," IRCTC wrote in a post on X (formerly twitter)

The post further added that IRCTC permits users to book tickets for friends, family, and relatives without surname restrictions, as long as bookings are made through a valid IRCTC account.

Regular users can book up to 12 tickets per month. This limit doubles to 24 tickets per month for users who have linked their Aadhaar card with their IRCTC account, under the condition that at least one passenger on each ticket is Aadhaar-authenticated, IRCTC announced.

The clarification post also noted that, a standard IRCTC account allows booking up to 12 tickets per month, whereas an Aadhaar-authenticated IRCTC account permits booking up to 24 tickets monthly, provided at least one traveler on each ticket is Aadhaar-authenticated.
