IMD Predicts Heavy Rainfall Along West Coast In Next Five Days; Issues Alerts In Kerala

The Indian Meteorological Department on Sunday predicted heavy rainfall along the West Coast during the next five days with thunderstorms and lightning. It has also predicted very heavy rainfall over Telangana, Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.

"Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied with a thunderstorm, lightning, and gusty winds (40–50 km per hour) is very likely over Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra & Marathwada, Karnataka, Kerala & Mahe, Lakshadweep, Gujarat state," IMD said in a statement on Sunday.

According to the statement by the IMD, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are very likely over Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh during the next five days.

Isolated extremely heavy rainfall was also likely over Coastal and South Interior Karnataka, Kerala, and Mahe on Sunday, IMD said. It has issued a red alert in Kozhikode, Wayanad, and Kannur districts of Kerala. It has also issued an orange alert for six other districts in Kerala predicting heavy rains.

Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, and Kasaragod districts have been put on orange alert for Sunday, while an orange alert is issued in Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod districts for Monday.

On the other hand, heatwave conditions will likely continue in pockets of Punjab, Haryana, and West Uttar Pradesh for the next two days.
