Companies should carefully evaluate the economic benefits of investments in artificial intelligence and approach these technologies with a strategic mindset, according to Manish Tandon, chief executive officer of Zensar Technologies Ltd.

Tandon highlighted the company's forward-looking approach as it prepares for strategic changes and technology upgrades. The Zensar managing director offered a balanced perspective on emerging technologies like generative AI, acknowledging both its potential and limitations.

"Generative AI is an exciting technology, but it's important to recognise its limitations," he told NDTV Profit on Wednesday. "While it offers innovative solutions, it is still evolving, and there are significant cost and error considerations."

Tandon expressed enthusiasm for Zensar's new focus on the healthcare vertical, highlighting its potential to make a direct impact. "The healthcare sector presents a unique opportunity to contribute significantly to people's well-being. We are excited about our strategic entry into this field, particularly in pharmaceuticals and medical devices," he said.

On the telecommunications business, Tandon underlined that the telecommunications industry was experiencing constant change, from traditional telephone lines to the latest advancements in 5G technology. "Despite the hype, 5G has not yet delivered the anticipated commercial benefits."

Fed Policies

"For the last two years, people have been anticipating rate cuts, and now it seems like we might actually see them as early as September. This shift in policy indicates that the Federal Reserve might be responding to concerns about economic performance," Tandon said.

He added that while such rate cuts are usually aimed at stimulating a slowing economy, they also indicate a nuanced approach to managing economic challenges.

The Fed's strategy seems focused on achieving a soft landing, and the impacts of these cuts will be closely monitored for their potential to ease economic slowdowns.

On the potential impact of the US elections on the business environment, Tandon downplayed the significance of political changes, focussing on the Fed's policies instead.

The CEO emphasised that broader fiscal policies, rather than the specific election results, would play a more substantial role in shaping the business landscape.

"The Federal Reserve operates independently of political pressures, which is crucial for maintaining economic stability," he said. "The outcome of the elections may influence fiscal policies, but the core monetary policies will likely remain focused on economic fundamentals."
