IT major Infosys Ltd. is betting big on artificial intelligence to drive growth after making early investments to develop capabilities. The company is working on 225 generative AI programmes, said Chairman Nandan Nilekani at the Annual General Meeting. Infosys is also seeing growth in the engineering services area.

The company said it has integrated generative AI components into entire service lines and developed 25 playbooks to create impact for clients. It has also built domain-relevant enterprise AI capabilities and created 23 AI industry blueprints to solve industry-specific challenges.

“We made an early investment last year in building a strong generative AI offering portfolio through Infosys Topaz. We are ranked as a leader in AI services by seven out of eight leading analysts. Our clients are combining it with cloud capabilities in Infosys Cobalt to help them scale AI,” Nilekani said.

To drive growth in AI and accelerate Infosys’ 'chip-to-cloud strategy', the company acquired InSemi, a leading semiconductor design services provider, he further said. The building of domain capabilities was aided by acquisitions like that of In-Tech, the engineering R&D services firm.

The chairman also said that Infosys has invested in hiring talent with proven generative AI skills as well as upskilling existing engineering talent. Infosys has over 2,50,000 employees and the employees have generated over 3 million lines of code using generative AI large language models.

“From our own early journey to becoming an AI-first enterprise, we know that navigating to value-at-scale from AI means breaking down tasks into sequential small wins and taking the 'responsible by design’ approach. This has been our AI-first strategy for accelerating business value and amplifying human potential,” Nilekani said.

Infosys is also seeing growth opportunities in the engineering R&D space and has actively made acquisitions to build capabilities.

Salil Parekh, CEO, Infosys, said at the AGM, “We focused quite a lot on, this past year, acquisitions. We focus on engineering services. We looked at the automotive and semiconductor areas. These are areas where we see good growth opportunities, where software is being built within those product areas. We already had a good capability in that and we've enhanced it by adding on these acquisitions, which we feel are targeted to give a benefit to our clients and integrate within Infosys.”
