Named the Triton 4000/2 Abyssal Explorer, the $20 million vessel is the "only acrylic-hulled submersible commercially certified for dives over 13,000 ft," the company said.

Real estate investor Larry Connor, from Ohio, US, is gearing up for a historic journey to the Titanic wreckage site alongside Triton Submarines co-founder Patrick Lahey.

This venture comes in the wake of the tragic Titan submersible incident, with Connor aiming to showcase the improved safety standards within the industry, as per a Wall Street Journal report.

Connor's ambitious plan involves travelling over 12,400 feet below the ocean's surface in a submersible designed by Lahey. Named the Triton 4000/2 Abyssal Explorer, the $20 million vessel boasts the capability to undertake such voyages repeatedly.

Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, Connor emphasised his desire to demonstrate to the global community that while the ocean holds immense power, it also offers transformative and awe-inspiring experiences when approached with caution and innovation.

Lahey, who has spent over a decade conceptualising and refining the design of the submersible, acknowledges the crucial role played by advancements in materials and technology in making this project a reality. The dates for when the duo will be going on the expedition haven't been confirmed yet.

The tragic fate of the Titan submersible, which suffered a catastrophic implosion resulting in the loss of all onboard passengers on June 18, 2023, has raised questions about safety protocols within the industry. Among the victims were prominent figures such as OceanGate Expeditions CEO Stockton Rush, British billionaire Hamish Harding, French diver Paul-Henri Nargeolet, and Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his son, Suleman.

In the aftermath of the Titan disaster, OceanGate faced investigations from multiple authorities, leading to the suspension of its operations. Triton and its competitors, like U-Boat Worx, now strive to reassure clients of the safety of their vessels, emphasising adherence to rigorous standards.
