(Bloomberg) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin plans to travel to the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia Wednesday, defying efforts by the US and Europe to isolate him over his war in Ukraine while seeking to bolster important partnerships for Moscow.
The Russian leader plans to discuss the oil market, and Israel and Palestine during his trip, Interfax news service reported, citing Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
The visit underlines the limitations of US and European influence as well as their efforts to isolate him through sanctions over the invasion of Ukraine. Those shortcomings are particularly acute as fighting on the battlefield settles into a stalemate and the White House is warning that time is running short for Washington to continue aiding Kyiv absent a new funding package from Congress.
