NDTV World Summit Day 1 Concludes
The first day of NDTV World Summit 2024 has concluded, with some of the top policymakers, diplomats and sectoral experts sharing their views on an array of subjects. One of the key highlights of the day was the inaugural address by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in which he presented the 125-day report card of his third tenure.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar's view on the dip in Canada ties also grabbed attention. The minister also announced that India and China have gone back to the "2020 position" on patrolling along Ladakh border after a prolonged period of standoff.

"Me and my brother just follow what our Gurus have taught us," said Amaan Ali Khan on how they have managed to have a different style of playing Sarod. "We have tried bringing brought sarod to the electronic space," said Amaan.
"Its all about vibration," said Ayan Ali Khan. "Its a long journey for the kids now, right now they are practicing with my father and us."

Classical Music Is Eternal: Ustad Amjad Ali Khan
"Classical music will be forever be here, till the time we have sun and moon," Ustad Amjad Ali Khan said at the NDTV World Summit 2024- The India Century on Monday.
"Classical music is the most ancient music- both Indian and Western. People in the west still listen to Beethoven and Mozart," he said.
"Music has connected the world. It does not belong to any religion," said the veteran Indian classical sarod player.
Learning Through Real Life Problems: Dr Bala Krishnan Shankar
Dr Bala Krishnan Shankar, Amrita University, explains the 'Living Lab,' that involves a parent organisation adopting around 100 villages across India, and where students visit to find cost-effective solutions to real-world problems.
"The students earn academic credit for their contributions. This hands-on approach fosters innovation, helping students grow by tackling real-life challenges. Over the past two years, 200 patents have been filed through this program, with 100 already accepted, showcasing its success in nurturing practical, impactful ideas," Shankar shared.
"We want to deploy the patents and make a difference in people's life," he said.
"Academia and Industry must understand each others strength and look for stronger collaboration for creating the technological break throughs and knowledge. So, that we can make India big as per economically and technologically," emphasised Suresh Kudoor.
India's EV Market Is Vast: Kartikey Hariyani
"Indian Automotive Markets is comprised of few segments of electrical vehicle, very unseen in other parts of the world. We have two-wheelers, three-wheelers and four-wheelers," said Kartikey Hariyani.
"A two-wheeler segment is a home charging candidate- so the charging infrastructure is either at your home pr your work place. While three-wheelers and four-wheelers will be driven by commercial charging infrastructure," he said. "For each of these industry segments, the industry players have started to invest into this," he further shared.

"There's a reason that RBI and other organisations give out ads to not share your card numbers, PINs etc. People need to cultivate the culture of staying secure amongst themselves," he concluded.
Bomb Threat Is A Source Of Concern To Us: Jaishankar
"This is a source of concern to us," Jaishankar on airline bomb threats. "This is not the first time this is happening," he said.
"There are countries which feel that your concerns don't matter. However, as soon as something very little happens to them, they start jumping," he said.
"It raises a lot of questions on the concerned country's credibility," the Union Minister said amidst the India-Canada row.
Third Term Government Garners Alot Of Respect: Jaishankar
"Leading into G20, we thought that the global south needs to come back into main-frame," Jaishankar said. "This is where we were on the front foot. There are some things, however, that needs to be done with deftness," he said.
"If you have a confident leadership, if you tell people that you are a third term government, it garners a lot of respect," he said.

"From 1950s, there were many lost decades in our country. We went too much into the direction of socialism, killed businesses," said the Union Minister. "India missed the bus of globalisation in 80s. We did not do as well as we could have," he said.
Jaishankar shared that when I look ahead, political stability is absolutely crucial. Look at 100 days post results, we have made so many decisions in the country's interest.
"You need leadership—people who can look ahead and make important decisions. We need vision, leadership, and political stability, along with the ability to motivate young people and provide them with opportunities," he said.

"Most of the large big tech corporates are largely American. The tech world has a relatively short shelf life, in as much as it needs continuous evolution. We missed the bus on the Semiconductor ride. We had virtually nothing until last year. You can't be the fifth largest economy and say that I have no contribution in the semiconductor fora. The government is thinking ahead. If this is to be your century, you cannot end up just as a market for other nations' products."

Jaishankar said the deal to reach these understandings pertaining to patrolling and sanctity of LAC creates the basis for peace and tranquility in the border areas.

Jaishankar drew the contrast between Canada and its western peers. "America used to say if you are not treaty ally, we will not co-operate beyond a point. But they evolved after Quad. Many western countries acknowledged India's role. This did not happen in Canada due to domestic political compulsions."
"We cannot say that the entire west is unreasonable. But I will say this, Canada is way behind," he added.

"We are seeing consequences of changes in domestic Canadian politics. Canada recently asked us to subject our high commissioner to a police enquiry but we chose to withdraw our commissioner. They have problems with Indian diplomats collecting info on issues that affect us directly. The same is not true for Canadian diplomats in India," Jaishankar said.

Jaishankar said the India's relationship with Canada right now is problematic. "In last 20-25 years, there has been a re-balancing. Many non-western countries have had a bigger role to play.
