A recent report by InterNations, a global organisation for expats, has ranked India among the top 10 most affordable countries for immigrants in 2024 in the Personal Finance Index category.

Vietnam has been crowned the most affordable destination for immigrants for the third year in a row.

The Expat Insider 2024 survey, conducted amongst over 12,000 expats living in 174 countries, offers insights into expat life on a global scale. The survey considers various factors that impact the immigrant experience, including quality of life, personal finances, working conditions abroad, and overall satisfaction levels.

Here's the list for the most affordable country for expats in 2024:

  1. Vietnam

  2. Colombia

  3. Indonesia

  4. Panama

  5. Philippines

  6. India

  7. Mexico

  8. Thailand

  9. Brazil

  10. China

According to the Expat Insider 2024 survey, for the Personal Finance Index, expats rated three different factors on a scale of one (very bad) to seven (very good): general cost of living; satisfaction with financial situation; and whether a respondent’s disposable household income is enough to lead a comfortable life.

To be featured in the ranking, a country must have a minimum of 50 respondents. In 2024, 53 destinations made this threshold.

This year's personal finance index ranked Vietnam at the top, followed by Colombia, Indonesia, Panama, and the Philippines. India ranked 6th, followed by Mexico, Thailand, and other popular expat destinations.
