UK's 'Heatwave Warning' At 26 Degrees Celsius Has Indians Asking 'How Did They Rule Us'?

The United Kingdom has issued heatwave warnings with temperatures expected to reach 26 degrees Celsius (78.8 degrees Fahrenheit) this week. The UK Met Office defines a heatwave as exceeding certain temperature thresholds for several days in a row and is location-based. In some regions in Britain, 26 degrees Celsius often falls within the "heatwave criteria".

This heatwave warning has caused a stir on social media, particularly among Indians who are used to far more extreme heat. Here are some reactions:

Heatwave In North India

Meanwhile, New Delhi on Tuesday recorded a minimum temperature of 33.8 degrees Celsius, six notches above the season's average. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Delhi. The IMD uses four colour codes for weather warnings -- green (no action needed), yellow (watch and stay updated), orange (be prepared) and red (take action).

Uttar Pradesh continued to be in the grip of heatwave conditions with the maximum temperature remaining above 45 degrees Celsius at most places. Prayagraj recorded the highest day temperature at 47.6 degrees Celsius, 8.7 notches above normal. Jhansi recorded a maximum temperature of 47.1 degrees Celsius, Varanasi and Kanpur 46.8 degrees each, Agra 46.5 degrees, Sultanpur 46.4 degrees, Fatehpur 46.2 degrees, Fursatganj and Barabanki 46 degrees each, Orai 45.8 degrees and Lucknow 45.6 degrees.

Bihar is experiencing extreme heat, with temperatures exceeding 44 degrees Celsius in 10 locations.
