The India-led meeting of the ministerial council of the Global Partnership for AI saw member countries reach consensus on bringing all current Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development members and GPAI countries on equal footing, under a common GPAI brand.

Held at the Global IndiaAI Summit in New Delhi, the sixth meeting of the GPAI Ministerial Council saw continuity from the previous edition's declaration, which was also held in New Delhi. Newly-sworn in Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Jitin Prasada chaired the meeting.

The 29-country strong alliance reached consensus on announcing a renewed vision through an integrated partnership with the OECD, which brings together all current OECD members and GPAI countries on equal footing, under the GPAI brand and on the basis of the OECD Recommendation on Artificial Intelligence.

Further, countries, regardless of membership in GPAI or OECD, were invited to join the alliance to contribute.

The declaration largely carried forward points from the previous document, which also emphasised on GPAI to continue as a nodal initiative for global cooperation on AI. There was no strong emphasis on GPAI becoming the apex body globally for AI policy.

The next chair for GPAI will be Serbia for 2024-25 and will carry forward the chairship from India.
