Team India will face Ireland in their opening game of the T20 World Cup 2024 on Wednesday. The 8th match of the tournament will be played at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York from 8 PM IST onwards.

India will have to perform under the burden of tremendous expectations having not won an ICC title since 2013. They came very close at home six months ago before coming up short against Australia in the ODI World Cup final. The players took time to recover from that heartbreaking loss, including Rohit.

India have four all-rounders in the T20 World Cup squad and Rohit Sharma underlined their importance on Tuesday, saying the management will look to use all of them effectively over the course of the tournament.

Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube are the pace-bowling all-rounders while Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel are the two left-arm spinners who can also play an important role with the bat.

Speaking ahead of the tournament opener against Ireland, Rohit did not rule out the possibility of playing all four in the playing eleven to ensure a longer batting line-up.

"If you want to create a good balance in a team, you need a lot of all-rounders. In fast-bowling all-rounders we have Hardik and Dube while Jadeja and Axar give us options in the spin department," said Rohit.

A very gutsy Irish team with some quality T20 players like Paul Stirling, Josh Little, Harry Tector, Andy Balbirnie, awaits India in the lung-opener.

On a slow track and a sub-standard outfield at the Nassau County ground, how India plays against Irish left-arm spinner George Dockrell will be interesting.

Where India hold the advantage is their spinners who are way better compared to what the Irish team have though the pace attack, aside from Bumrah, looks a bit weak in absence of the redoubtable Mohammed Shami.

Ireland head coach Heinrich Malan is confident his side will be able to find and exploit India's shortcomings when the teams meet on Wednesday.

"India is an experienced side, which means there's a lot of data and a lot of information out there. Hopefully, we can look to find a couple of areas we can try and exploit," Malan told reporters during a pre-match press conference.
