At least three people were killed and 44 suffered burns after a fire broke out at an Indian Oil Corp.'s refinery in the Haldia district of West Bengal on Tuesday afternoon.
While what sparked the blaze is not known yet, the primary cause could be a flash fire leading to some people losing their lives, Indian Oil said in a statement. The fire was immediately extinguished and the situation has been brought under control, it said.
The injured were given preliminary aid shifted to Haldia Refinery Hospital. Indian Oil sought the district administration's help to evacuate the injured, and critical cases were moved to institutes of higher medical management, the statement said.
