Rupee appreciated 5 paise to close higher at 84.45 against the US dollar. It opened flat at 84.49 on Friday. The Indian unit closed at 84.50 on Thursday, according to data on Bloomberg.

Friday's Rally Help Sensex, Nifty Snap Two-Week Losing Steak: Market Wrap

The NSE Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex recorded the best since in over five months on Friday after ending with over 2% gain. Friday's surge helped the Nifty 50 post best week in nearly two months.

The Nifty 50 ended 524.50 points or 2.25% higher at 23,874.40, and the Sensex ended 1,961.32 points or 2.54% higher at 79,117.11.

Indian benchmarks witnessed sharp rise post 1:30 p.m. The Nifty 50 rose as much as 2.60% to 23,956.10, and the Sensex jumped 2.67% to 79,218,19. It's the highest intraday jump since June 5.

Gains across Asia and Europe supported India's large–cap gauges' upward trajectory in Friday's session. Most share indices in Asia–Pacific ended higher except Hong Kong and Mainland China's stock gauges. The CS 300 and Hang Seng indices ended 3.10% and 1.89% down, respectively.

European share indices rose on Friday as traders brushed off disappointing Germany's GDP data and UK's lower–than–expected retail sales data.

India's fear gauge saw a big swing in Friday's session. Right after open, the NSE Nifty India Volatility Index jumped 16.76% to 18.76. Advancing into the session, the index plunged 20.25%. It ended 0.67% higher at 16.10.

"Despite global challenges, India's long-term growth story remains compelling. Investors should focus on sectors aligned with structural themes such as urbanization, infrastructure, and consumption growth. Strategic portfolio adjustments, disciplined investing, and a long-term perspective are critical to navigating the current environment," said Krishna Appala, a senior research analyst, Capitalmind Research.

Broader indices underperformed. BSE Midcap closed 1.3% higher and BSE Midcap was 0.9% up.

All 21 sectoral indices on the BSE closed higher. BSE focused IT rose the most.

Market breadth was skewed in the favour of buyers. As many as 2,455 stocks rose, 1,463 fell and 124 remained unchanged on the BSE.

On a weekly basis, the Nifty 50 ended 1.59% higher, recording the best weekly gains since late September. The Sensex ended 1.98% higher.

On NSE, eight sectors advanced this week, three declined, and one remained flat. The NSE Nifty Realty rose the most, while the NSE Nifty Media declined the most.

Meanwhile, retail sales in the UK declined 0.7% on the month in October, compared to 0.1% increase in the previous month. Market participants expected 0.3% decline for October.

Oil Update: Future Prices Steady 

Oil future prices steadies around $74 a barrel in Friday's session as traders assessed the situation between Russia and Ukraine. Russia has launches ballistics missiles at Ukraine following the latter's strike with western weapons, Bloomberg reported.

The January future contract of crude oil was trading 0.03% higher at $74.25 a barrel as of 11:21 a.m. The prices rose 2.18% to $74.20 a barrel in Thursday's session.

Stock Market Today: Nifty, Sensex Open Higher As ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank Share Prices Rise

The NSE Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex opened higher on Tuesday as ICICI Bank Ltd. and HDFC Bank Ltd. share prices lead. Gains across Asia–Pacific share indices also supported Indian benchmarks.

As of 09:17 a.m., the Nifty 50 was trading 49.75 points or 0.21% higher at 23,399.65, and the Sensex was trading 189.22 points or 0.25% higher at 77,345.01.

The Nifty 50 has failed to build momentum above the 200-day average and closed at six months low and on the higher side 24,000 will be a strong resistance from current levels, said Vikas Jain, head, research at Reliance Securities.

The previous day low at 23,250 levels will be a support followed by highest put open interest at 23,000 levels for the monthly expiry. RSI has closed near the lower end of the range and is witnessing some reversal on hourly charts indicating some bounce from current levels. The highest call OI is at 24,000 strikes while the downside the highest put OI is at 23,200 for the weekly expiry, Jain said.

Gold Prices Extend Gains To Fifth Session 

Gold spot and future prices extended gains to fifth consecutive session as demand for the safe–haven rose on heightening tension between Ukraine and Russia.

Asia FX Update: Currencies Trade Mixed Against US Dollar

Most Asian currencies were trading on a mixed note against the US dollar as investors assessed the latest US unemployment claims data. The data showed that the number of people filing for jobless benefits declined unexpectedly, indicating a rebound in the labour market.

The GIFT Nifty was trading 0.06%, or 15 points, down at 23,450.50 as of 06:37 a.m.

The NSE Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex resumed their declines on Thursday to record their lowest closing in more than five months as sentiment around the globe was weakened due to tensions in Russia-Ukraine and as investors assessed Nvidia's quarterly results.

The Nifty 50 ended 168.60 points, or 0.72%, down at 23,349.90, and the Sensex closed 422.59, or 0.54%, down at 77,155.79.

"We expect market to remain volatile on account of global geo-political concerns, relentless FII selling and uncertainty around the outcome of state assembly elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand," said Siddhartha Khemka, head, research, wealth management, Motilal Oswal Financial Services Ltd.
