Bakra Eid 2024: Is Stock Market Open For Trading Today?

Normal trading at the BSE and NSE will resume on Tuesday, June 18.

Eid ul adha 2024: Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE) will remain closed on Monday, June 17, on account of Bakra Eid. Trading activities across all segments, including equity, derivatives, and SLB (Securities Lending and Borrowing), will be halted for the day. There will also be no trading in currency and interest rate derivatives segments.

The Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) will be closed for the morning session on Monday, June 17. However, for the evening session, trading will begin at 5:00 PM and run until 11:30 PM or 11:55 PM.

Here is the full list of stock market holidays remaining in June:

  • June 17, Monday: Bakra Eid

  • June 22, Saturday

  • June 23, Sunday

  • June 29, Saturday

  • June 30, Sunday

Investors are advised to plan their trading activities accordingly. The stock exchanges will operate as usual on all other weekdays not mentioned in the holiday list.

Trading on the equities segment occurs on all days of the week (except Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays declared by the Exchange in advance). The market timings of the equities segment are:

  • A) Pre-open session
    Order entry & modification Open: 09:00 hrs
    Order entry & modification Close: 09:08 hrs*
    *with random closure in last one minute. Pre-open order matching starts immediately after close of pre-open order entry.

  • B) Regular trading session
    Normal/Limited Physical Market Open: 09:15 hrs
    Normal/Limited Physical Market Close: 15:30 hrs

  • C) Closing Session
    The Closing Session is held between 15.40 hrs and 16.00 hrs

  • D) Block Deal Session Timings:
    Morning Window: This window shall operate between 08:45 AM to 09:00 AM.
    Afternoon Window: This window shall operate between 02:05 PM to 2:20 PM

Note: The Exchange may, however, close the market on days other than the above scheduled holidays or may open the market on days originally declared as holidays. The Exchange may also extend, advance or reduce trading hours when its deems fit and necessary.

On Friday, the Indian benchmark indices ended at a fresh closing high in the last session of the eventful week, tracking sharp gains in shares of HDFC Bank Ltd. and Reliance Industries Ltd.

The NSE Nifty 50 closed 66.70 points, or 0.29%, higher at 23,465.60, and the S&P BSE Sensex ended at 181.88 points, or 0.24%, up at 76,992.77.

During the last leg of trade, the NSE Nifty 50 rose 0.39% to 23,490.05, the highest level since the index's inception on April 22, 1996. The Sensex rose 0.35% to 77,081.30, the highest closing level. However, the index didn't record a fresh lifetime high like its peers.
