A fresh examination will be conducted following the cancellation of the UGC-NET June 2024 exam, Govind Jaiswal, joint secretary at the Ministry of Education, announced on Thursday. The date of the retest will be announced soon, he said.
The Ministry of Education had cancelled the exam on Tuesday based on indications that the integrity of the exam had been compromised. Inputs were received from the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), under the Ministry of Home Affairs and the National Cyber Crime Threat Analytics Unit of I4C.
"The ministry will not hesitate in taking action against those who are found guilty of wrongdoing. Focus is on the student's future," said Jaiswal. "We will take cognisance of all the factors to ensure student interest at all levels. If there are any changes, that will reflect in the consequential impact in the calendar year."
The matter is being handed over to the CBI for a thorough investigation, he said.
The I4C works at different levels and while an investigation is underway, disclosing more details could hamper the process, Jaiswal said. The NTA and various other stakeholders are involved in ensuring transparent exams, he said.
"The Bihar economic wing is already investigating, and we are relying on the input. Once we receive full input, we will take action. The Ministry is committed to ensuring student interest. Disclosing details can compromise the investigation. We will act against conclusions at any level," he said.
The ministry is taking prompt action so that no child's future gets affected, he said. "Fixing responsibility and drawing conclusions depend on the investigative agency."
"The Ministry receives many inputs and takes action based on the gravity of the input. Every input cannot be attributed to a full reaction. We ensure that the reaction is 100% in line with the gravity of the input," he said.
