During its first Cabinet meeting, the Modi 3.0 government allocated portfolios to the Council of Ministers members who took the oath administered by President Droupadi Murmu on June 9.
Without any major reshuffle or big surprise, the BJP-led NDA government has retained Amit Shah as the Minister of Home Affairs, Rajnath Singh as the Defence Minister, Nitin Gadkari as the Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nirmala Sitharaman as the Minister of Finance and S. Jaishankar as the Minister of External Affairs.
Among the 71 ministers sworn alongside PM Modi, 60 are BJP leaders, two each from the Telugu Desam Party and the Janata Dal United, and one each from the Janata Dal (Secular), Hindustani Awam Morcha, Shiv Sena (SHS), Apna Dal (Soneylal), Rashtriya Lok Dal, Lok Janshakti Party (LJP-Ramvilas Paswan), and Republican Party of India.
Out of the total, there were 30 cabinet ministers, five ministers of state with independent charge, and 36 ministers of state.
Of these, five Cabinet berths went to allies—Janata Dal (Secular), Hindustani Awami Morcha, Janata Dal United, Telegu Desham Party and Lok Janashakti Party (Ram Vilas).
Five Ministers of State (independent charge)—Rao Inderjit Singh, Jitendra Singh, Arjun Ram Meghwal, Prataprao Ganpatrao Jadhav and Jayant Chaudhary—were also sworn in.
While 30 MPs were inducted as Union Ministers, 41 others took oaths as Ministers of State (MoS).
