The final ballot has been cast and the exit polls have started filtering in. The Narendra Modi government seems all set for a third term, as per a survey by Jan Ki Baat. The exit poll suggests that the National Democratic Alliance, led by the Bhartiya Janata Party, is set to gain in the 2024 Lok Sabha election, as compared with the 2019 verdict.
In 2019, BJP secured 303 seats, while NDA had managed to win 353 seats. Come 2024, the tally, as per Jan Ki Baat will see BJP top with 327 seats (15 seats plus or minus) and NDA managing victory in 377 seats, out of a total 543 seats.
The exit poll sees the INDIA alliance, led by Congress, securing 151 seats (15 seats plus or minus). The others are projected to win 15 seats.
The Congress tally in 2019 was 52 seats, which is projected to stay the same, with a 10 seat margin. In other words, the Congress is expected to repeat its 2019 performance, but the INDIA alliance is likely to beat the UPA tally in 2019 (91 seats).
Vote Share Picture
Though the NDA led by Narendra Modi is expected to sweep back to power with a gain in share of seats, the vote share is unlikely to change, as per the Jan Ki Baat survey.
The NDA is likely to garner 50% vote share like it did in 2019, while the INDIA bloc is projected to get 35% vote share. Individually, the Congress is expected to get 18% vote share, while the BJP looks to be securing 42%.
Region-Wise Projection
When it comes to region-wise focus, the BJP seems to be gaining in southern and eastern India, while they will continue to dominate the western and northern states.
The Jan Ki Baat exit poll surveyed 3.5 lakh people.
The world's largest democratic exercise drew to a close at 6 p.m. on June 1, after running for a record 44 days from April 19 to June 1, with nearly 1 billion eligible voters.
The elections for the 543 contested Lok Sabha seats saw the BJP-led NDA and Congress-led INDIA bloc facing off against each other.
Phase 7 of the elections saw a voter turnout of approximately 59.05% across the country, whereas Phase 6 and Phase 5 recorded 63.36% and 62.2% turnout, respectively.
