India's Wholesale Inflation Rises To 13-Month High In April

Inflation in manufactured products contracted 0.42% in April, as compared with 0.85% in March.

India's wholesale inflation climbed to the highest in 13 months, led by food and fuel.

The Wholesale Price Index rose by 1.26% in April, as compared with 0.53% in March, according to data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Tuesday.

WPI Inflation Internals (Year-On-Year)

  • Inflation in manufactured products—the largest component of the index—contracted 0.42% in April, as compared with 0.85% in March.

  • Primary-article inflation was 5.01%, as compared with 4.51% in March.

  • Inflation in food articles rose 7.7% as against 6.9% last month.

  • Vegetable inflation rose 23.6%, compared to 19.5% in the preceding month.

  • Inflation in non-food articles contracted 4.4%, after contracting 4.13% in the previous month.

  • Fuel and power inflation increased by 1.4% in April, rebounding from a decline of 0.77% in March.
