The Union Budget 2024-25 will be presented on July 23, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
The presentation of the Union budget by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will likely be preceded by the presentation of the Annual Economic Survey by Chief Economic Advisor Anantha Nageswaran on July 22.
The President has approved the proposal for summoning the Parliament for the Budget session from July 22 to Aug. 12, subject to exigencies of parliamentary business, the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs said.
This would be the first budget of the Modi 3.0 government. Speaking earlier in the year ahead of the polls, the Finance Minister had said that the next budget will lay down the vision for the "Amrit Kal". The Union government and its ministers have been vocal in their agenda to make India the third largest economy from its current position at fifth during the decade.
The upcoming budget will also be Sitharaman's seventh consecutive budget presentation, making her one of the few Finance Ministers in India's history to do so, after CD Deshmukh in the 1950s. Former Prime Minister Morarji Desai holds the record for the most budgets presented at 10—the first six between 1959-1963 and four more between 1967-1969.
