The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana - IV.
The Rs 70,125 crore project will provide financial assistance to construct 62,500 km of roads and allow new connectivity for 25,000 unconnected habitations and upgrade the bridges on the new connectivity roads, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said during a media briefing after the Cabinet Meeting.
The scheme launched for financial year 2024-25 to fiscal 2028-29 will provide all weather road connectivity to 25,000 unconnected habitations.
The all-weather road connectivity will help in transforming the remote rural areas along with boosting socio-economic development, it said. While connecting habitations, the nearby government educational, health, market, and growth centres will also be connected for the benefits of the local people.
The project will use advanced techniques and best practices to construct roads, including cold mix technology, waste plastic, panelled cement concrete, and other materials like fly ash and steel slag. The road planning will take place through the PM Gati Shakti portal in addition to providing detailed project reports, it said.
