Five private laboratories approved by the Indian Council of Medical Research have started testing for Covid-19 in Mumbai charging Rs 4,500 per person.

On a doctor’s prescription, people suffering from asthma, respiratory illness, pneumonia, cold, cough or similar symptoms can also undergo the test as a measure of precaution, according to a statement by Birhanmumbai Municipal Corporation. These labs will also facilitate in-home testing.

Here are the details of the private laboratories that have been approved:

“Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai team of doctors is actively calling all those who are home quarantined. In the last 24 hours we have called 1,200 such individuals and out of that we have found seven symptomatic people,” said Dr Daksha Shah, deputy executive health officer at the BMC. “We are getting them tested at home and their samples are brought to the private laboratories.”

Shah said the step has been taken so that these people don't go out and infect others. Within the next 24 hours, the BMC will activate a helpline for the home testing.

Mumbai and other adjoining areas have reported 58 confirmed cases. Eight patients who are symptomless and whose two consecutive reports came negative for Covid-19 will be discharged today.
