India's daily Covid-19 infection rate continued to rise with over 45,000 fresh cases for the first time in 49 days.
46,164 people tested positive for the coronavirus in the last 24 hours according to the Health Ministry’s update as of 9 a.m. on Aug. 26.
Daily recoveries, at around 34,000, remained lower than fresh cases, taking the active case load to 3.33 lakh. They constitute 1.03% of India’s total Covid tally.
Of the fresh cases reported, Kerala accounted for over 31,000, the reason for which was cited as an 'Onam spike' by the state government. Onam was celebrated on August 21.
