Bullet Train Project: Rs 1,390 Crore Contract Signed With L&T For Procuring Steel Bridges

Bullet Train Project: The financial bids for the steel bridges opened on December 18, 2020

Mumbai Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project: The National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), responsible for executing the country's first bullet train project, signed a contract agreement with Larsen & Toubro (L&T) - IHI Consortium on February 22, 2021. The agreement signed is for the fabrication and procurement of 28 steel bridges, for crossing over railway lines, rivers, highways, roads, and other structures for the Mumbai Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor. The NHSRCL awarded the Rs 1,390 crore contract to  Larson and Toubro – IHI Infrastructure Systems (Consortium) on January 25, 2021. (Also Read: Larsen & Toubro Bags ₹ 1390 Crore Contract For Bullet Train Project )

"The actual construction work has begun for the MAHSR corridor and things are taking shape. This is the third significant contract awarded by NHSRCL for the Project.  The P4(X) and P4(Y) packages for 28 Steel Truss Superstructures will not only boost Indian steel industry but also enhance the Indian steel fabrication workmanship,'' said Achal Khare, Managing Director (MD), NHSRCL

According to a statement shared by the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited, it is estimated that around 70,000 MT of steel will be utilised for the fabrication of the steel bridges, which will provide a boost to the country's steel industries and their allied supply chains. The steel manufacturers in the country will provide steel for the fabrication of structures for these steel bridges. Earlier, L&T had emerged as the lowest bidder for the steel bridge order. The financial bids for the procurement of the steel bridge order for the bullet train project were opened on December 18, 2020. Once ready for service, the 508 km long Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor will run at speed of 320 km per hour, passing through areas in Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli. The entire distance is expected to be covered in two-three hours and with 12 stations along the route. The bullet train project is funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
