The Eastern Railway's passenger revenue rose 10% in the first quarter ended June 30, 2024.
The Kolkata-headquartered Easter Railway generated more than Rs 953.24 crore in passenger revenue during the first quarter, compared to Rs 866.79 crore from a year ago, according to an official statement on Tuesday.
The total number of originating passengers from the April-June period of 2024 stood at 2.87 lakh, marking a 3.36% increase from the previous year's figure of 2.78 lakh.
Earlier this month, the Eastern Railway announced a significant increase in both cumulative freight loading and earnings for the first quarter of the current fiscal. The total freight loaded during this period amounted to 25.36 million metric tonnes, up from 20.277 million metric tonnes in the same period of the previous financial year, marking a growth of over 25%.
In terms of earnings, the railway recorded Rs 2,290.55 crore in freight revenue for the first quarter of the current fiscal year, compared to Rs 1,820.05 crore earned in the corresponding three months of the previous financial year.
