Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd. and Bharti Airtel Ltd. continued to gain subscribers in April 2024, even as Vodafone Idea Ltd.'s losing streak remained intact despite a successful fundraise.

The Mukesh Ambani-backed Reliance Jio added 26.87 lakh net wireless subscribers, as compared with 21.43 lakh in March, according to data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India.

Bharti Airtel was the second-largest gainer, with net additions of 7.52 lakh, less than half of the net gains in the previous month. The Sunil Bharti Mittal-backed company's net additions stood at 17.5 lakh in March.

On the other hand, Vodafone Idea lost 7.35 lakh wireless subscribers, as compared with a loss of 6.84 lakh subscribers in March. This comes following a successful Rs 20,000-crore equity fundraise by the company.

The combined mobile connection additions rose 73% from March to April-end to 14.67 lakh, according to TRAI data.

The government-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. continued its losing streak, albeit at a slower pace. The telecom lost 12.33 lakh wireless subscribers in April, nearly 47.5% lower than the preceding month.

Bharti Airtel continued to lead in the active subscriber tally, with over 99.17% of active subscribers. Jio's active subscribers fell to 91.74% in April.

As many as 1.10 crore subscribers submitted their requests for mobile number portability in April. With this, the cumulative MNP requests increased from 96.25 crore at the end of March to 97.36 crore at the end of April since its implementation.
