IMD has forecasted that Cyclone Remal will make landfall by Sunday midnight.
Severe cyclonic storm 'Remal' will make landfall along the West Bengal coast and southwest coast of Bangladesh by midnight of May 26.
Wind speed of up to 110-120 kmph gusting to 135 kmph is expected due to Cyclone Remal.
As per IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall (115.5-204.5 mm) is expected in the coastal districts of West Bengal, North Odisha, Mizoram, Tripura and South Manipur on May 26 and 27.
Due to Cyclone Remal and the expected heavy rainfall prediction, Kolkata airport has suspended flight operations for 9 hours starting Sunday midnight.
Kolkata Police has shared the following helpline numbers (9432610428, 9432610429) with residents who can connect during times of distress possibly caused by Cyclone Remal.
Remal means 'sand' in Arabic, was named by Oman. It is the first cyclone over the Bay of Bengal in this pre-monsoon season. The previous Cyclone which hit the Indian coastlines was Cyclone Michaung in December 2023.
