Jasveer Singh, co-founder of the Join Hood App, sent social media into a tizzy with a snapshot of his recent electricity bill totalling over Rs 45,000 for two months. Singh's post, which showed a payment of Rs 45,491 via Paytm, left many social media users in disbelief and sparked a discussion.

"Paid the electricity bill, now thinking of switching to candles," Singh remarked in his post.

Since being shared on June 23, the post has garnered nearly 10,000 likes and numerous comments, with users expressing shock and offering suggestions.

One individual suggested, "Solar lagvalo 🌞✨ We got it 3 years ago and are damn satisfied with our almost zero bill now; in this AMD city heat of 40-45."

Another user criticised the electricity price hike, stating, "@TataPower has increased prices by 25% & with wheeling charges & GST it works to 40% increase. @narendramodi @OfficeOfRKSingh, This is not acceptable. Hot summers impossible without airconditioning. Consumers be allowed to generate or buy their own electricity from any vendor." [sic]

However, not all comments were sympathetic. One user pointed out the likely high electricity consumption, stating, "So- size of your house? ACs, lights etc etc- washing machine, dryer etc etc - if you consume electricity units you will have to pay that much- and you didn’t specify two months, you conveniently ignored that! Please minimize your electricity consumption or else cough up the money! No point putting it out on social media & sensationalizing!”
