Truecaller Introduces New Feature To Tackle Issue Of AI-Generated Scam Calls; Hits 400 Million Active Users
To use AI Call Scanner, you need to upgrade to the latest Truecaller version, 14.6, on Android.
Truecaller has launched a new feature called AI Call Scanner to help users identify if a caller's voice is real or an AI-generated fake.
AI voice scams involve using artificial intelligence to mimic human voices, often to trick people into giving away money. These scams started appearing around 2019, coinciding with the rise of deepfake technology. Recently, scammers have been known to take voice samples from social media and use AI to clone the voice, which is then used to call and scam a person's family.
How AI Call Scanner Works?
To fight these sophisticated scams, the caller ID platform Truecaller has developed the AI Call Scanner. This innovative technology identifies AI voices during a call. By briefly pausing the call, the AI analyses the voice and quickly determines if it is human or computer-generated. Users receive instant feedback with a message indicating 'Human Detected' or 'AI Voice Detected.'
How To Get and Use AI Call Scanner?
To use AI Call Scanner, you need to upgrade to the latest Truecaller version, 14.6, on Android. This feature is available as part of Truecaller Premium and includes a free trial. Currently, it is only available in the US, but will be rolled out to other countries soon.
Here's how to use AI Call Scanner:
Set Truecaller as your main calling app.
When you receive a suspicious call, tap "Start AI Detection."
The call will pause briefly while the AI records and analyses the voice.
An "Analysing…" message will appear during the process.
You'll get an immediate on-screen notification indicating whether the voice is human or AI.
