The Indian cricket team, having clinched the T20 World Cup 2024 title by defeating South Africa in a thrilling final, has faced delays in returning home due to adverse weather conditions in Barbados. Originally scheduled to depart on Sunday, the team was stranded as Barbados shut down its airport amidst threats from Hurricane Beryl. Media reports on Wednesday morning (India time) indicated further delays, with the team now expected to touch down in Delhi on Thursday morning.

Arrangements were made for the team's safe return after being grounded for three days due to the hurricane, said BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla. "Thank God! Team India is flying back from Barbados this evening to Delhi," he shared on social media. "Will be reaching tomorrow evening. They were stuck for three days there because of the massive hurricane."

Accompanying the cricket contingent, a 20-member Indian media group will also be flown back to India by BCCI from Barbados, some members of the media contingent wrote on X, formerly twitter.

Hurricane Beryl, which inflicted localized damage in Barbados, is currently advancing towards Jamaica, prompting warnings for Haiti and the Dominican Republic. The National Hurricane Centre issued a hurricane warning for Jamaica, Grand Cayman, Little Cayman, and Cayman Brac.

Although Hurricane Beryl is weakening, forecasts indicated it would maintain major-hurricane strength as it approached Jamaica early Wednesday, moved near the Cayman Islands on Thursday, and headed towards Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula by Friday.
