On an emotion-filled day, India ended their 11-year wait for a global trophy, overcoming South Africa, who chocked at the business end of the match by seven runs to emerge champions in the T20 World Cup in Barbados.

It was India's second T20 World Cup victory after they had won it in 2007 under the legendary MS Dhoni in South Africa, and first since winning the Champions Trophy in 2013.

Star batter Virat Kohli, who was an upcoming cricketer 17 years ago, made his first fifty of this tournament in the final -- a classy 76 off 59 balls with six fours and two sixes that carried India to a competitive 176 for seven.

Then the Indian bowlers, led by Arshdeep Singh (2/20) and Jasprit Bumrah (2/18), worked their magic as they did throughout this tournament, limiting South Africa to 169 for eight to propel India to their second T20 World Cup.

Virat Kohli bagged the 'Player of the Match award' for his match winning knock while Jasprit Bumrah was adjudged the 'Player of the Tournament' for his impeccable impact on India's triumphant T20 World Cup campaign.

Skipper Rohit Sharma ended the tournament as the second highest run scorer with 257 runs in eight innings. Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who played a key role in Afghanistan's journey to the semi-finals, tops the list of the leading run-getters of the 2024 T20 World Cup. Australia's Travis Head with 255 runs in seven innings is third in the list.

In the bowling department, Arshdeep Singh finished as the highest wicket-taker along with Afghanistan's Fazalhaq Farooqi as both pacers took 17 wickets each during the tournament. According to the ICC website, Farooqi is at the top because he had a better strike rate than Arshdeep.

Arshdeep's bowling figures of 4/9 in four overs against USA are the fifth-best in the tournament. Jasprit Bumrah moved up to the third spot in the highest wicket-takers list with 15 scalps in eight matches.

India became the first team to win the men's T20 World Cup without losing a game all tournament. The Rohit Sharma-led team won all eight matches they played in the tournament, and had one washout against Canada.
