India's T20 World Cup Victory: Reflections And Reliving Glory With PM Modi
According to Modi, cricket in India is successful and serves as an inspiration for other sports.
The Indian cricket team won the T20 World Cup in Bridgetown on Saturday last week to end a 13-year World Cup drought. The champions were welcomed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his residence in New Delhi. In a conversation with the champions, Modi applauded their team spirit, perseverance, confidence and patience they showed on the ground.
Rahul Dravid, the outgoing head coach, thanked the Prime Minister and the support he provided to the team during the 2023 ODI World Cup when the team lost in the final against Australia. He also appreciated the fighting spirit of the players.
Narendra Modi's Interaction With Players
The journey of Rishabh Pant, from the hospital bed to the cricket ground, received appreciation from Modi.
After winning the final, Sharma was seen eating the soil of the pitch. When Modi asked him about it, the batter, who has stepped down from the T-20 international format, said he'd always cherish the moment and the ground on which they won the title.
Modi then asked Virat Kohli about the tough time he faced before the final. Jasprit Bumrah, who was announced as the player of the tournament, was another player the PM was seen having a conversation with. Modi lauded his determination. Bumrah said he loves to help the team under crucial situations, and the joy he derives in doing so.
Hardik Pandya spoke about his roller-coaster journey over the past six months—from the boos he faced during the Indian Premier League matches to World Cup glory. Suryakumar Yadav spoke about the acrobatic catch he took at the boundary during a crucial juncture that swung the game in India's favour, and the months of practice that goes behind it.
PM Modi also interacted with Axar Patel, who played a pivotal role in the finals. He asked him about his experience of being promoted up in the batting order during the time when there was a fall of early wickets.
