With a refreshingly aggressive batting approach, India would look to avoid the knockout stage jitters plaguing them for over a decade when they take on defending champions England in the semifinals of the T20 World Cup 2024 on Thursday. The match at the Providence Stadium in Guyana is scheduled to start at 8 PM IST.

The last time these two teams met at this stage, it turned out to be a no contest as England outplayed an outdated India in the 2022 edition's semifinal. However, India have finally been able to shed their conservative approach at the top of the order since that 10-wicket hammering in Adelaide and have become the team to beat in this competition.

On paper, Rohit Sharma and his men look the stronger bunch for the conditions expected at the Providence Stadium and look primed for revenge.

Interestingly, no match has been staged here since June 8 when the West Indies breezed past Uganda in a day game, giving the curators extra time to prepare a suitable pitch for the high-profile game.

For both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, it is probably their last shot at winning the T20 world title in India colours and the two would be desperate to leave a mark.

India are likely to go unchanged into the game even though they have Yuzvendra Chahal in the squad who can come in handy against England's right-handers including Phil Salt, Jos Buttler, Harry Brook and Jonny Bairstow.

England, on the other hand, have not had the smoothest of campaigns. They stuttered into Super 8s where they lost to South Africa before turning things around.

Skipper Buttler was back among the runs against USA in England's final Super 8 game and considering the familiarity with the Indian attack, he is well-placed to come up with a game-changing knock. His opening partner Phil Salt can take the game away from the opposition very quickly and India will need to dismiss him in the powerplay.

There is also a likelihood of rain impacting the game.

Here's What Rohit Said Ahead Of The Big Game

India skipper Rohit Sharma on Wednesday said his team is focussed on staying calm and keeping things simple in the high-pressure T20 World Cup semifinal against England, acknowledging that it has battled a fear of failure in the past.

"It is a bit of both," said Rohit when asked whether his side has been let down by fear of failure or bad luck in its past quests for a world title.

"We want to treat this as another game. We don't want to think about what lies ahead and what is the context of the game and all of that," he added.

"Everyone knows in the back of their mind it's a semi-final. But you don't want to keep talking about it again and again. I think the entire group is in a good frame of mind. It is a knockout game. If you think too much it doesn't help."

'...Unique Challenge For Us': England Coach

India's approach with the bat now is drastically different to what it was in the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final and both teams will start Thursday's contest on an even keel, England head coach Matthew Mott said on Wednesday.

"Probably the only thing that we've discussed is that we feel that they're a very different team to that semi-final. The way that they've approached it in the last couple of years is certainly taking the game on extremely hard in the power play," said Mott on the eve of the match.

"Rohit (Sharma) with the bat has led the way extremely well and shown leadership in that department, as has Jos Buttler for us. But I think it presents a really unique challenge for us. It's a venue we don't know well.

'We've obviously been armed with a lot of information and we think we've got a squad to cover it, but there's a little bit of unknown about what we're going to get," he said.
