Air India Flight Carrying T20 World Cup Winning Indian Team Takes Off From Barbados — Track It Here

The Rohit Sharma-led Indian team won the T20 World Cup 2024 title after pulling off a thrilling seven-run win over South Africa in the final on June 29.

An Air India special chartered flight carrying the T20 World Cup-winning Indian team took off from Barbados on Wednesday.

The special charter flight named AIC24WC -- Air India Champions 24 World Cup -- is bringing back the Indian squad, its support staff, the players' families and some board officials and Indian media, who have been stranded in the Caribbean island for the past three days due to Hurricane Beryl.

The flight took off from Barbados around 5 am local time (2:30 pm IST). It will take a 16-hour flying time to reach Delhi, where the team will land on Thursday around 6:20 am IST. The flight has been arranged by the BCCI.

The special Air India plane can be tracked through the flight-tracking service Flightradar24. At the time of publishing the article, the flight was being tracked by more than 5,000 users. It was also the most tracked flight on the platform.

The Boeing 777, which took off from New Jersey, USA on July 2, landed in Barbados around 2 am local time and the airport staff stated that they had not seen a bigger plane land at the Grantley Adams International airport, which resumed its operations on Tuesday.

Earlier, the Indian team was scheduled to leave around 6 pm local time on July 2 and arrive at 7.45 pm IST on Wednesday.

The Rohit Sharma-led side won the title after pulling off a thrilling seven-run win over South Africa in the final on Saturday.

The players are set to be felicitated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi but the schedule of that event has not yet been finalised, according to news agency PTI. Plans are also afoot to have a road-show in Mumbai to honour the triumphant team, which ended a trophy drought of 11 years.

PM Modi spoke to the Indian cricket team on the phone on Sunday and congratulated its members on their T20 World Cup win. Modi congratulated Rohit Sharma for his splendid captaincy and appreciated his T20 career. He also lauded star batter Virat Kohli for his innings in the final, besides his overall contribution to Indian cricket.

Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja announced their retirement from T20 internationals following the win.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah has announced a prize money of Rs 125 crore for the team for its monumental feat in the just-concluded ICC showpiece.

"I am pleased to announce prize money of INR 125 Crores for Team India for winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024," Shah wrote in a post on X.
