Indian Energy Exchange's Q1 Electricity Volume Rises 19%

Electricity volume jumped 24.7% to 10,185 mega units in the month of June.

Indian Energy Exchange Ltd.'s electricity volume rose 19% year-on-year to 28,178 mega units in the first quarter of fiscal 2025. Electricity volume jumped 24.7% to 10,185 mega units in the month of June, according to a business update.

According to government data published in June 2024, the country's energy consumption reached 152.4 billion units, representing an 8.9% YoY increase. Hot weather conditions led to a surge in electricity demand during the first quarter of this financial year.

Energy consumption rose 11.2% YoY to 452 billion units during the first quarter of the financial year 2025. During the quarter, the country's peak demand reached 250 gigawatts, which surpassed its previous high of 243 gigawatts recorded in September last year.

Shares of Indian Energy Exchange closed 2.25% lower at Rs 185 apiece, compared to a 0.04% fall in the benchmark BSE Sensex.
