Prime Minister Narendra Modi took his oath as a member of the 18th Lok Sabha on Monday, following his election victory for a third consecutive term.

Modi returned to power earlier this month, while the Prime Minister and his council of ministers took the oath on June 9.

While addressing the media in the Parliament complex at the beginning of the first session of the new Lok Sabha, PM Modi asserted that his government will take everyone along in fulfilling the aspirations of the people.

He said that the 18th Lok Sabha begins on Monday with a resolve to build a 'Shreshtha Bharat' and a 'Viksit Bharat'. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said people have given his government a mandate for a third consecutive term and have put a stamp of approval on its policies and intentions.

This is Modi's third term as a member of the Lok Sabha. He retained the Varanasi seat, which he has been winning since 2014.

Earlier in the day, B Mahtab took oath as a member of the new House as well as that of pro-tem speaker at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
