A number of world leaders are likely to be invited to the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which is slated to take place on June 9.
Modi is all set to take charge as Prime Minister for a historic third consecutive term with the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) winning 293 seats in the Lok Sabha elections.
Leaders From Neighbouring Countries Invited
Top leaders of Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal and Mauritius are likely to be among the foreign leaders to be invited to Modi's oath-taking ceremony.
The media division of Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe's office said he had received the invitation from Prime Minister Modi. In a social media post, it said Wickremesinghe had accepted the invite and that he congratulated Modi on the electoral victory over the phone call.

June 5, 2024Modi also had a phone conversation with Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and invited her to attend his swearing-in ceremony which she accepted, diplomatic sources told news agency PTI.
Nepalese Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has also been invited. Modi had a separate phone conversation with Prachanda, the report said.
Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay and Prime Minister of Mauritius Pravind Jugnauth are set to be invited to Modi's swearing-in ceremony, informed sources said.
The formal invitations are set to be sent on Thursday,
Leaders Who Attended In 2014, 2019?
Leaders of regional grouping SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) countries were among those who attended Modi's first swearing-in ceremony when he took the reins as PM in 2014.
Leaders of the BIMSTEC countries comprising the seven member states of Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Thailand attended Modi's swearing-in ceremony in 2019 when he became PM for the second consecutive term.
Though the BJP could not get a majority on its own in the polls, the party-led alliance secured 293 seats out of 543. The majority mark in the lower house is 272.
