Ravi Agarwal Appointed Central Board of Direct Taxes Chairman

He will hold the position until his superannuation on Sept. 30, 2024. Following his superannuation, a contract re-appointment will take place until June 30, 2025.

The Indian government has approved Ravi Agarwal's appointment as the new chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes. He has been a member of CBDT (Administration) since July 2023.

The Appointment Committee of the Cabinet issued an order on Saturday, appointing Agarwala as chairman from July 1. He will hold the position until his superannuation on Sept. 30, 2024. Following his superannuation, a contract re-appointment will take place until June 30, 2025.

The contract for re-appointment will include the usual terms and conditions that apply to re-employed Central Government officers.

He will be taking over for Nitin Gupta, who was appointed CBDT head in June 2022. He retired on Sept. 30, 2023, but was reappointed by the government until June 30.
