Power Cuts In Delhi After Fire At UP Substation
Atishi says she will raise the matter with the Union Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.
Many parts of Delhi experienced power supply cuts on Tuesday after a fire broke out in a key substation in Uttar Pradesh, Minister Atishi said. The incident occurred at a Power Grid Corp. station in Mandola, which supplies 1,200 megawatt of power to the city.
"The power restoration process has begun and electricity is now gradually returning to different areas. But this major failure in the national power grid is extremely worrying," Atishi posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
The minister said she will raise the matter with the Union Power Minister and PGCIL Chairperson. Manohar Lal Khattar took charge of the Ministry of Power earlier in the day.
The affected areas include parts of east, central, south and north Delhi, and areas like ITO, Laxmi Nagar, Lajpat Nagar, Jamia, Narela, Model Town, Rohini, Gopalpur, Sabzi Mandi, Wazirpur and Kashmiri Gate, NDTV reported.
"There is very limited electricity production in Delhi, most of the electricity in Delhi comes from different states," ANI quoted Atishi as saying. "It is a matter of great concern that today, the national-level power infrastructure of our country has failed."
An intense and unprecedented heatwave has been sweeping Delhi for nearly a month now, with temperatures soaring north of 50 degrees Celsius on some days. The India Meteorological Department has predicted that heatwave conditions will prevail in most parts of the city.
