PM Modi To Visit Russia, Austria From July 8 To 10; Check Schedule And Key Details

Russia is expecting a "very important and full-fledged visit" by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Moscow, which is crucial for Russian-Indian relations, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Russia and the Republic of Austria between July 8-10. It will be PM Modi's first visit to Russia since Moscow invaded Ukraine in February 2022.

PM Modi Russia Visit Details

According to a PMO release, PM Modi will be in Moscow on July 8-9 at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin to hold the 22nd India-Russia annual summit.

The leaders are expected to examine the different aspects of multifaceted relations between the two countries. They will exchange views on contemporary regional and global issues of mutual interest. 

This is PM Modi's first visit to Russia in five years. He had last visited the country in 2019 to attend an economic conclave in Vladivostok.

The annual summit between the Prime Minister of India and the President of Russia is the highest institutional dialogue mechanism in the strategic partnership between the two countries.

Over the years, 21 annual summits have been conducted and the last one was held in 2021, in New Delhi. Both nations sealed 28 MoUs and agreements and a joint statement titled, 'India-Russia Partnership for Peace, Progress and Prosperity'.

PM Modi and President Putin last had bilateral talks at the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, on September 16, 2022.

In the meeting, PM Modi had famously pressed Putin to end the conflict in Ukraine saying "Today's era is not of war".

"I know today's era is not of war. We discussed this issue on phone several times that democracy, diplomacy and dialogue touch the entire world," PM Modi had said.

Kremlin On PM Modi's Visit

Russia is expecting a "very important and full-fledged visit" by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Moscow, which is crucial for Russian-Indian relations, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Saturday.

The programme of Prime Minister Modi in Moscow will be extensive and the two leaders will be able to have informal talks, Peskov said in an interview with Russia’s state-run VGTRK television channel.

"Obviously, the agenda will be extensive, if not to say overbusy. It will be an official visit, and we hope that the heads will be able to talk in an informal way as well," he said.

PM Modi In Austria

PM Modi will visit Austria on July 9 and 10. This is the first-ever visit of an Indian Prime Minister to the country in 41 years.

"He will call on President of the Republic of Austria, Alexander Van der Bellen, and hold talks with the Chancellor of Austria Karl Nehammer," the release added.

PM Modi and the Chancellor are scheduled to address business leaders from India and Austria. During his visit, the Prime Minister will interact with Indians in Moscow and Vienna.
