Water Level In Mumbai Lakes At 5.43% On June 29; Check Latest Data Shared By BMC

Mumbai lake levels: The collective water stock in the seven reservoirs is now at 78,579 million litres till 6 AM on June 29.

The water stock in the lakes supplying drinking water to Mumbai is at 5.43%, according to the data shared by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation on Saturday.

The collective water stock in the seven reservoirs is now at 78,579 million litres till 6 AM on June 29. At the same time last year, the water stock in the lakes stood at 8.94%, while in 2022, the stocks stood at 10.16%.

The seven reservoirs that supply water to Mumbai are Bhatsa, Upper Vaitarna, Middle Vaitarna, Tansa, Modak Sagar, Vihar and Tulsi - located in Mumbai, Thane and Nashik districts. The city needs around 4,000-4,500 million litres of water every day. The total capacity of these lakes is 14.47 lakh million litres.

As per the latest BMC data, the water level in Tansa is at 19.63%. Modak Sagar is at 16.41%. The useful water stock in Middle Vaitarna is at 10.81% while Tulsi Lake is at 28.21% of its full capacity. As per the release, from gross useful contents of Bhatsa, 57,57,00 million litres are allocated for MCGM usage.

Mumbai received moderate to heavy rainfall on Friday, which led to some tree fall incidents, traffic snarls and delay in suburban train operations.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's disaster management department said the Santacruz observatory of the India Meteorological Department recorded 78.6 millimetres of rainfall, while the figure was 65.9 mm at the Colaba observatory in the southern part of the metropolis.

On Saturday morning, the IMD, Mumbai had predicted a 'generally cloudy sky with intermittent spells of moderate to heavy rain in the city and suburbs' in the next 24 hours.

Monsoon arrived in Mumbai on June 9, earlier than the normal date of June 11, but rains have been sparse all through the month.
