Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Monday, signed the first document concerning the 'PM Kisan Nidhi' farmer welfare scheme, marking his third consecutive term in office.

Modi, who was sworn in as Prime Minister on Sunday evening, led a 72-member Union Council of Ministers into office.

"Ours is a Government fully committed to Kisan Kalyan. It is therefore fitting that the first file signed on taking charge is related to farmer welfare" Modi said in a statement and social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

The document authorised the disbursement of the 17th instalment of PM Kisan Nidhi, benefitting 9.3 crore farmers and allocating approximately Rs 20,000 crore.

At 73, Modi first assumed the role of Prime Minister in 2014 and secured re-election in 2019. He is the second Prime Minister after Jawaharlal Nehru to achieve a third consecutive term after he was re-elected to the Lok Sabha from Varanasi.

Accompanying Modi, senior BJP figures Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, and Amit Shah were sworn in as cabinet ministers, with party president JP Nadda rejoining the cabinet after a five-year hiatus. President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath of office to them.
