India's coal production rose in June, the government said, indicating that thermal power plants that depend on the solid fuel will have ample supplies to tide over the monsoon season.
Coal production increased 14.5% year-on-year in June to 84.63 MT, the Union Coal Ministry said in a statement. Despatches, too, rose 10.2% over a year ago to 85.76 MT.
Production by Coal India Ltd., the world's largest miner of the fuel, was 63.10 MT, an 8.9% year-on-year increase. Its despatches in June were up 5.4% to 64.10 MT, the statement said.
“Moving past the target (of coal production) of 189.2 MT, CIL achieved 100% satisfaction in the first quarter of the current fiscal,” NDTV Profit had reported previously.
As of June 30, inventory maintained by coal companies had increased significantly to 95.02 MT.
“This surge reflects an impressive annual growth rate of 41.68%, underscoring the robust performance and efficiency of the coal sector,” the ministry said.
The ministry also reported an increase in coal stocks at thermal power plants to 46.70 MT (provisional) as of June 30, growing annually by 30.15%.
NDTV Profit had reported that Coal India's supply to thermal power plants reached 154 MT during the same period of FY24.
