The Patna High Court revoked the increase in reservations implemented last year in Bihar after a bunch of petitions challenged the hike as being unconstitutional.

The Nitish Kumar government in the state had increased quotas in state government jobs and educational institutions for Dalits, backward classes and tribals to 65% from 50% in November last year.

Hearing a bunch of petitions in the matter, Division Bench headed by Chief Justice K Vinod Chandran ordered to strike down the rise in quotas.

"We had submitted that the amendments to the reservation laws were violative of the Constitution," said Ritika Rani, one of the counsels appearing for the petitioners.

"After hearing both sides, the court had reserved its judgement in March. Today the final order has come and our petitions have been allowed," she said.
