Chhattisgarh is Set to Become India’s Next Start-Up Destination

In the past 15 years, the government of Chhattisgarh has been relentlessly working towards creating an eco-system aids and encourages the growth of entrepreneurship. With initiatives like 36inc and Start-up Chhattisgarh, the state is helping nurture the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship within not just the state but also across the country.

  • Chhattisgarh is among the few Indian states to have its own Innovation and Entrepreneurship Policy.

  • The state government has sanctioned Rs.5 crores for Start-up Chhattisgarh

  • Ranked 6th best state in India on the Ease of Doing Business Index by the World Bank

  • To help start-ups grow, CM Raman Singh inaugurated 36inc - a state-run incubator for local start-ups.

 

Start-up Chhattisgarh – Under this initiative, the state government aims to nurture start-ups companies in Chhattisgarh, with special preference given to priority sectors like healthcare, animal husbandry and value-addition of core sector products.

  • 14 camps set up across Chhattisgarh

  • 3,858 ideas were submitted

  • 36 innovative start-up ideas were chosen to be developed at 36inc

Benefits:

  • 75% subsidy to budding entrepreneurs on term loans amounting up to Rs.70 lakhs for six years

  • Fixed capital subsidy of 35-40% on a maximum amount of Rs.3.5 Cr

  • Electricity duty exempted for 10 years

  • Exempted stamp duty for the purchase or lease of land for start-up companies

 

Other initiatives

  • The government plans to set up a Startup Village in Atal Nagar (formerly named Naya Raipur), modelled after Kerala’s successful Startup Village initiative.

  • Sanchar Kranti Yojana, the biggest mobile phone distribution scheme in India, is promoting entrepreneurship among the youth – 50 lakh phones to be distributed, 1600 mobile towers to be set-up across the state.

  • Chhattisgarh also hosts events like Frugal Innovation Summit, with the aim of becoming the “Frugal Innovation Hub” of India and promote Make in Chhattisgarh.

  • Leading producer of minerals like iron ore, dolomite and coal

  • Produces 15% of India’s steel and 100% of its aluminium

  • Also rich in bauxite, limestone, quartzite and tin concentrates, all key resources for construction as well as heavy industry
