Mizoram Election Results 2023 Live Updates: ZPM To Form Government With 27-Seat Win

The Election Commission has announced the final results for 40 assembly seats in Mizoram. Zoram People’s Movement has won in 27 seats and is set to form a government.

Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga called on Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati on Monday evening and submitted his resignation following the debacle of his party, PTI reported.

The MNF won nine seats and is leading in one, while the opposition ZPM bagged majority by securing 27 seats in the 40-member House.

Mizoram Results: Zoram People’s Movement wins 27 seats, followed by MNF with 9 seats.

The ZPM won the Kolasib, Chalfilh, Tawi, Aizawl North-I, Aizawl North-II, Aizawl North-III, Aizawl East II, Aizawl West-I, Aizawl West-II, Aizawl West-III, Aizawl South-I, Aizawl South-II, Aizawl South-III, Lengteng, Tuichang, Champhai North, Champai South, Tuikum, Hrangturzo, South Tuipui, Lunglei North, Lunglei East, Lunglei West, Lunglei South, Lawngtlai East and Serchhip seats.

The ruling Mizo National Front won seven seats and was leading in three. These include Mamik, Tuirial, Serlui, Tuivawl, East Tuipui, West Tuipui and Thorang.

The Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) is all set to form the next government in Mizoram after the party swept the elections bagging 26 seats in the 40-member House on Monday, PTI reported.

Mizoram Chief Minister and MNF candidate Zoramthanga lost to ZPM's Lalthansanga by 2,101 votes in the Aizawl East-1 seat, according to the Election Commission.

Lalthansanga secured 10,727 votes, while Zoramthanga got 8,626 votes, it said.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has secured majorities in the Hindi heartland states of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh, which strengthens the BJP's position as the dominant party in North India.

Whereas the Congress has made gains in Telangana, it achieved the hall mark of 60 seats on Sunday to form government in Telangana.

The BJP secured a victory in the Chhattisgarh Assembly Election 2023, contrary to the exit polls that initially predicted the Congress retaining power in the state. It also secured a victory in the 2023 Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh Assembly Elections.

The BJP has successfully formed a government in Madhya Pradesh, securing victory in 163 seats and comfortably surpassing the halfway mark. MP was seen as an uphill task, with reported anti-incumbency and fatigue with the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government.

The counting of votes for the Mizoram assembly elections that were held in November will begin at 8 a.m. Postal ballots will be counted first, followed by those of EVMs. The voter turnout was 75.68% for the 40-seat Legislative Assembly in Mizoram.
